Jan Ernst Matzeliger 

Invented the first shoe lasting machine to make shoes readily available and affordable for the local people of Philadelphia. He died young in his 30’s before he could grow old with his creation. Matzeliger sold his invention days before he passed, to local collogues and mentor. His invention and ravished iterations of it has now dominated the automation and fast-fashion production of footwear.

Sustainability

Of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged. Being able to produce from and for oneself.

Circular Economy

A circular economy is supposed to take the economic activity from the consumption of finite resources, and find effective resourceful ways to take the waste out of the system.

Green Economy

A green economy is defined as low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive. The green economy functions within the social platform as growth in employment and income, driven by public and private investment into economic activities, infrastructure and assets that allow reduced carbon emissions and pollution, enhanced energy and resource efficiency, and prevention of the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. That all sums up to; a green economy is one that can sustain production while causing little to no harm to the environment.

Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions.

Vegan

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment.

Synthetic polymers made to have the look and feel of animal leather/hide/skin.

Chromism

In chemistry, chromism is a process that induces a reversible change in the colours of compounds It is known that there are many natural compounds that have chromism, and many artificial compounds with specific chromism have been synthesized.

Closed Loop

A societal system where products and their components are designed, manufactured, used and handled so as to circulate within society for as long as possible, with maximum usability, minimum adverse environmental impacts, minimum waste generation, and with the most efficient use of water, energy and other resources throughout their lifecycles.
